TiVo Premiere UI gets a shot in the arm with iPad remote control

TiVo Premiere users won’t have to be jealous of Comcast’s Xfinity TV remote for very long — soon enough, they’ll have an DVR-scheduling, content-searching, program-pushing iPad app of their own. Called the TiVo Premiere App, it’ll feature a full touchscreen TV programming guide, playback controls, and the ability to search Netflix and Amazon on Demand for shows when it arrives “in the coming weeks.” There’s also basic social network sharing via Facebook and Twitter, and if that “Livingroom TiVo” drop-down menu is any indication, the ability to control multiple TiVo boxes from a single tablet. Also, the search box and remote icons in the upper-right hand corner that suggests that TiVo’s integrated the iPad keyboard and some virtual buttons too, so maybe you’ll be able to exercise control over the entire experience without diving into your couch (or your pocketbook) for a TiVo Slide Remote . One can only hope. No word on smartphone versions, though. PR and another shot of the interface right after the break. Kingston unveils HyperX Max 3.0, a SuperSpeed SSD for your pocket, we tear it down (video)

USB 3.0 and SSDs , they were just made for each other, don’t you think? Kingston certainly seems to agree, as it’s now rolled out its first SuperSpeed portable solid state drive, giving it the catchy title of HyperX Max 3.0. It fits within the dimensions of a conventional 2.5-inch hard drive, but differs in being able to pump 195MB of data per second when reading or 160MBps when writing. Although pricing and availability details aren’t yet available, we can expect 64GB, 128GB and 256GB varieties to crop up some time soonish. Until then, can we interest you in some unboxing and teardown action, courtesy of our brethren over at Engadget Spanish? You’ll find it on video just past the break. Autonomous Audi TTS scales Pikes Peak in 27-minute climb

They said they’d do it , and by golly, it’s been done — a specially-equipped Audi TTS drove the entire 12.42 miles and 156 precarious turns of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb without a driver at the wheel. ( Google , eat your heart out.) While the vehicle technically performed the feat about a month ago in September, Audi decided to wait until this last week to proclaim it to the world, following a helicopter accident during filming that sent pilot Jim Dirker to the hospital. Thankfully, he survived to fly another day, and at least some of the footage pulled through as well; you’ll find a brief clip after the break of the shiny white Quattro autonomously speeding up that hill. Notion Ink Adam gains a flashy website, adds a touchpad to its backside

Rohan Shravan’s Notion Ink Adam may have a ways to go , but his company’s certainly got a beautiful new website, showing off the fabled Tegra 2 tablet with the Pixel Qi screen and fabulous battery life in all its conceptual glory. We’ll be darned if the tablet doesn’t have a new feature, too, in the form of a trackpad on the unit’s back, described as providing “all the functionality and freedom of the main touch surface” when you’re holding the device with a single hand. We’d chide Rohan for the continual feature creep, but as long as he doesn’t venture into Duke Nukem Forever vaporware territory in his quest for perfection, we’re honestly happy to wait. It’s not like we’re running out of half-baked tablets to try these days. Get a peek at the promo website at our source link below. Dell Inspiron Duo and speaker dock up for preorder at Microsoft Store now, no clue when they’ll ship out

The Dell-Microsoft symbiotic relationship continues where it left off with the Venue Pro , as another highly desirable piece of hardware has been made available at a Microsoft Store ahead of Dell: the transforming Inspiron Duo and its JBL-powered speaker dock . That’s actually in your favor this time, however, as you won’t have to trek across the countryside to one of Microsoft’s seven brick-and-mortar stores, but rather grab the $549 convertible at Microsoft’s website, and you can even get $50 off the audio station’s typical $99 price. That said, these are most definitely pre-orders we’re dealing with here and there’s no expected shipping date on the site, so it’s hard to tell if you’re actually securing yourself the first spot in that ” first week of December ” line. They won’t charge you until it ships, though, so if you’re not willing to wait for our full review to see if that slick spinning screen is up to snuff, now is probably the time. Palm webOS ‘Enyo’ framework paves the way for tablets and larger phones (video)

Don’t expect HP’s webOS 2.0 to be tied to an HVGA screen for long — come “early 2011,” the company will introduce a number of “really interesting new form factors,” including tablets and phones . That was the message driven home at Palm’s Developer Day this year, according to PreCentral ‘s Dieter Bohn, and the software that’s going to make that shift possible is a little something called Enyo. Picking up where Ares left off, Enyo is a Javascript app framework with native hardware acceleration and faster (one second) app load times, but the part we think you’ll be most interested in is the promise of natively scaling apps to multiple aspect ratios. HP’s Scott Miles demoed it earlier this week by playing around with a tiny, single-pane portrait email application in the desktop version of Chrome… and then maximized the browser window to reveal a fully-functioning three-pane landscape layout suited for a large tablet screen. Representatives stressed that the email app was a proof of concept, but Enyo’s here to stay, replacing the earlier Mojo starting in 2011 and slated to be available in early 2011 via developer SDK. Get introduced to Enyo in a video after the break, or skip ahead to that email demo at 15:55. Newt Gingrich: I Will Not Go to Debate With Olbermann or Matthews Moderating

Newt Gingrich on Sunday said that if he runs for president in 2012, he would not participate in a debate that had MSNBC's Chris Matthews or Keith Olbermann moderating. Instead, the former Speaker of the House told C-SPAN's Steve Scully that he'd prefer to just have an open, informative dialogue between the candidates with only a timekeeper (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Screen Grabs: Someone named Jesse McCartney uses his Motorola Flipout to stare at some poor girl’s backside

Pop musicians have been endorsing products as long as they’ve existed (who could forget Beatles toothpaste, Ricky Nelson hand sanitizer, or Enrico “The Great Caruso” Caruso-brand horse polish?), but for some reason the convergence of the two never fails to amuse (and annoy) us. Even more so when sensible boy band yelper Jesse McCartney, um, flips out his Motorola Flipout Android phone to surreptitiously film some hard working dancer’s backside. Is that how a celebrity should act? We think not! Video after the break (if you really want to, that is). Fox News Watch Panel Ignores Their Off-Air Criticism of Palin While Bashing ‘Snobbery’ of Other Critics

Click here to view this media Apparently Fox New Watch’s Jon Scott and Jim Pinkerton assume that none of their viewers know how to use the Internet or watched this clip of some of the off-air comments made about Sarah Palin on their show. Here’s what they said this week. Scott: Sarah Palin’s Alaska debuted on TLC last Sunday with record breaking ratings for that network. The show featuring the former Alaskan governor and her family as they explore our home state scored nearly five million viewers. TLC says it is the largest debut in the channel’s history and yet the media critics were ready to pounce on her for putting that show together. Kirsten Powers, you’re from Alaska. How about Kirsten Powers Alaska? […] She is a draw! […] Scott: Well and all kinds of critics were ready to pounce. In fact we said on this show last week there were some unsubstantiated reports that she was getting a million dollars or had asked for a million dollars an episode to do that show and I guess that turned out not to be the case. […] Pinkerton: Golfers measure themselves on how much money they make. I think the snobbery in the coverage of her show which is a hit among real people is so thick you can cut it with a knife. I just… it boggles me that critics would turn themselves into such a stereotype that they would do exactly what you’re expected to do which is pound away at her for being a Republican.

Parrot releases AR.Pursuit augmented reality chase game for AR.Drone (video)

Get the hang of your AR.Drone yet? Good, because while flying dangerously close to your little brother or late-night TV show host can be a fun diversion, it looks like things are about to get real. Really real. We’ve just received word that on November 26, AR.Pursuit — the first of hopefully many Augmented Reality games for the drone — will be making its way to the app store. The rules are pretty straightforward: one player pursues the other, attempting to bring him down with virtual machine guns and missiles. Once caught, the players change roles and the pursuit begins anew! That is, until someone gets carried away and sends their air vehicle into a concrete wall or running wood chipper. Game times are variable, from one to nine minutes, and the app will cost you $2.99 in the app store. Now all you need is an AR.Drone, and a friend — with an AR.Drone. Video, PR after the break.
