Did a Thai company we’ve never heard of just make the best-looking portrait QWERTY Android phone to date? We might not jump the gun that quickly — but it’s definitely up there. Spriiing Design (yes, three i’s) is launching its Smile model in Bangkok on January 18th and the rest of Thailand thereafter, featuring a 3 megapixel camera, 512MB of ROM, 256MB of RAM, microSD expansion to 16GB, and a 2.6-inch QVGA display along with 3G support on the 900 and 2100MHz bands paired to a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 core atop Android 2.1. In other words… yeah, this pretty low end fare. More interestingly, though, the handset was apparently designed in Sweden and manufactured by Huawei — in fact, it’s got “In connection with Ideos ” silkscreened on the back, and Ideos is the brand that Huawei’s been pushing this year for its Android-powered gear. Small world, ain’t it? Follow the break for Spriiing’s video teaser. Update: Turns out this puppy is on sale in Australia, too, through Boost Mobile (yep, there’s a Boost Mobile there). Thanks, Matt! Continue reading …AMD might have let the Radeon HD 6500M and 6300M out a little early, but today marks the formal launch of its new, second-generation DirectX 11 mobile chips, the HD 6000M family. The new arrivals are the HD 6900M / 6800M in the gaming-centric high-end (offering up to 1.3 teraFLOPS of compute power), the HD 6700M / 6600M in the upper midrange, and the HD 6400M to provide mainstream users with all the discrete graphics loving that they desire. The 6000M range introduces AMD’s new HD3D hocus pocus, which will allow apps, games and other media to present themselves in 3D to you — provided devs care to make them so — while EyeSpeed is a marketing name for a set of technologies designed to improve video streaming and gaming performance by taking on more tasks with the GPU. You’ll care about that if you’re a big online media consumer and you’ll also want to know that AMD has an exclusive on hardware acceleration for DivX video. Full press release awaits after the break. The SuperHero can back up photos and contacts from your iPhone (3G model and up) and iPod touch (second-gen and up) to an SD card — no apps or music, unfortunately, due to restrictions in the API. The associated app pops up automatically when you slot in the device, and there’s a few options for fine-tuning what exactly gets saved. A smart idea, but it’d be nice if we had more output options like audio (for an elegant stereo solution) or USB (just in case you did have a computer handy, with or without iTunes). SuperHero’ll set you back $69.99 and comes bundled with a 4GB SDHC card, but more importantly, there’s an amusing video ad to see. It’s after the break. Opera for tablets has just been teased on video, exploiting a Galaxy Tab to show off slippery smooth pinch-to-zoom functionality plus a finger-friendly landing page for all your favorite websites when opening a new window. It’s really not much to go on, but the Norwegian company is trying to hold the details until its proper public preview, which will be happening right here at CES very soon. The base will like it.” “Republicans in Washington are planning to waste some time. Is anyone surprised by that?” co-host Mika Brzezinski tersely introduced the segment in the 7 a.m. EDT news hour. Both Scarborough and Brzezinski sarcastically mocked the plan. “Good for them. Thank you,” Brzezinski spat. “You are big men,” she derided the House Republicans. “You so tough,” Scarborough chimed in, followed by Brzezinski making strange growling noises.

To wit: Why should Republicans be eager to replace their leadership in a year where they made historic gains in the House? Shouldn’t they reward the mastermind of such success? Indeed, that’s a point Steele emphasizes in his defense. Indeed, he explicitly takes credit for the outcome in the House: “My record stands for itself. We won.” The answer, as everyone knows, is that Steele didn’t mastermind this election at all. He was at best an incidental figure in the outcome. The 2010 results were not the product of anything concocted or engendered by Michael Steele. All he really managed to do was blow a lot of fund-raising opportunities. So who WAS the mastermind of the 2010 Election? If anyone, it was Roger Ailes — a reality that hardly anyone seems to want to acknowledge, including Democrats. Indeed, this was the Fox Election in every respect. Nearly every candidate who won got major a push from Fox. The most energy came from a Tea Party “movement” almost wholly engendered by Fox’s relentless and unapologetic propagndization campaign. The GOP owes its House victories not to Michael Steele but to Fox News. That makes Steele utterly dispensable, especially after two years of gaffes and goofiness . So Steele is out there promising to go all-out to defend himself. In RepublicanSpeak, this means he’s going to viciously attack his opponents. Gee, wonder if he’ll bring up Saul Anuzis’ predilection for mentoring young neo-Nazis . Or if he’ll again claim he’s being held to different standard as a black man . Get out your popcorn! Meanwhile, in today’s debate, Steele did bring up a point not very popular with the Tea Party set: Calling the GOP “the party of Lincoln,” Steele stressed that Republicans must continue efforts to reach out to non-traditional constituencies, namely Hispanics and African-Americans. “This country is a lot bigger than we think it is sometimes,” Steele said. “We cannot be a party that sits back with a litmus test and excludes. The national chairman cannot go into a state and say, ‘You’re less Republican than we are, I will not talk to you.’” No wonder they want to get rid of him.

And while plenty of questions remain about the ban’s rules and efficacy, it’s a considerable leap, seeing as how Italy uses 25% of all the plastic bags in Europe — around 25 billion a year. We’ve been following Neil Young’s crazy retro next-gen conveyance since its inception in 2008 , and sadly the news of late has not been good. Just a few weeks after the car (and its proprietor) made an appearance at SEMA it (the car) was left unattended while charging in a warehouse. The pearly white land yacht caught fire and nearly burned the place down, but enough was able to be salvaged for the team to start a rebuild, largely thanks to not one but two donor 1958 and ’59 Lincoln Continentals that will be providing the necessary panels and parts to replace those destroyed in the fire. You can see the pre-fire car and some highlights from SEMA in the video below, though you’ll have to wait until summer to see it looking that good again.
