Nothing says “impending primary season” like a good campaign tribute song. In 2008, Obama Girl shared her breathy pledge of allegiance to Barack on YouTube, while an unlikely trio of middle-aged women informed America that it was “raining McCain.” This year, there’s only one potential Republican primary candidate who is already inspiring dozens of ditties…Sarah Palin. This song, set to the tune of the American classic “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” was uploaded in October but is only now finding its footing on the interwebs – it has close to 50,000 views and this count is rising. Potentially troubling, however, is the fact that the video has 1,722 “dislikes” and only 226 “likes”: But wait! A quick search yielded quite a few more Sarah songs, like this one, posted just six days ago, and whose description reads ” Written for Governor Sarah Palin’s 2008 vice-presidential campaign, the words I wrote to “All American Woman” are as true and meaningful today as they were then. She still represents the freedom loving and conscience guided Americans who are quite concerned with the direction this country is headed; which is to put it bluntly – down the tubes! Understandably, she is despised by extreme leftists and not without good reason, for Sarah Palin exposes them for what they are – people who hate America. Rich and remastered the vocals and rhythm tracks to kick it up a notch!” This video from Zachary Stockdale is perhaps the most “professional” of the lot but also reeks of a possible parody: Seen any other tribute songs we should know about? Perhaps a Romney rap or a Thune tune? Let us know in the comments.

He went after Dana Milbank for his op-ed in the Washington Post where he wrote this: While the accusations sometimes go too far – there’s no evidence that either Palin or Beck inspired the Tucson suspect – the heat is well deserved. Both are finally being held to account for recklessly playing with violent images in a way that is bound to incite the unstable. In Beck’s case, as I reported last year , it already has – repeatedly. Milbank defended his column and pointed out that yes it is fair to hold these people accountable for their nasty rhetoric and that in Beck’s case there’s a direct line to the people he’s incited. KURTZ: Let me go back to Dana Milbank, because I want to bring up a column you that wrote this week in “The Washington Post.” You wrote about, among others, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. You mentioned that that drives traffic and ratings. And undoubtedly it does. They’re both of course on Fox. And you said two things. You said, one, “There’s no evidence that they inspired the Tucson gunman.” And then you said, and I’m quoting here, “Both are being finally held to account for recklessly playing with violent images in a way that is bound to incite the unstable.” “Bound to incite the unstable.” You’re connecting the dots between their rhetoric and violence. MILBANK: Well, between violence, but not in this case, the Loughner case. What I — in a sense, it’s rough justice. I think it is very important that people are held to account for this nasty rhetoric that is causing — in Glenn Beck’s case, I’ve documented a few cases in which it’s led a crazy person to snap in the opinion of — KURTZ: Well, wait a minute. Hold on, Dana. You just used the verb “led.” There was a case — we talked about this last time you were on — where somebody wounded two California police officers who was very angry — MILBANK: And said he was driven to do so by what he heard from Glenn Beck. (CROSSTALK) KURTZ: OK. So it’s fair to hold a talk show host responsible for what some violent or perhaps unbalanced person does because they like what this person says on the airwaves? MILBANK: Yes, Howie, in the aggregate. I don’t think — you can’t say in every individual case. You know, who knows what any one crazy person is going to do? But the problem is there’s developing a pattern here. That’s why I’m saying yes, I think it’s irresponsible, and I think it’s a bit of a straw man, that people are claiming that, you know, Beck and Palin are being blamed. Mostly, people are saying they’re not being blamed for this particular incident. They are being blamed, as well as some on the left should be blamed, for inciting people generally. It probably — we don’t know for sure. It probably wasn’t a driver in this case, but it’s a driver in so many other cases. And I agree with David that you need to look out for the effect your words are having on the sane people. But I think you also need to worry about that fraction of one percent who just might be driven over the edge.

Using a Wii emulator on a PC, some custom firmware, and a program called PSPDisplay, he has managed to stream video and sound to his PSP Go in real time. He also mapped the Wii controls (Wiimote waving excluded, we presume) to the handheld to complete the full Wii-on-PSP gameplaying experience. To see the slick mod in action, check the video after the break. New firmware updates for both cameras tout SDXC card compatibility, increasing memory, but failing to follow through on speed — Pentax notes transfer rates won’t hit UHS. Despite the company’s Japanese website listing the K-7 as a discontinued product, the camera also gets increased video editing functions in playback mode, as well as improved image sharpening settings. Now, follow the source links below, and let Pentax upgrade you. Pentax K-7 and K-x firmware upgrades pack SDXC compatibility originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 17 Jan 2011 19:59:00 EDT. Continue reading …Former Senator George Allen — the once-leading religious-right candidate eyeing the run for the presidency in 2008, until his “macaca moment” lost him the election and his aspirations — is said to be running against Sen. Webb in 2012. Allen, the former U.S. senator and Virginia governor, plans to tell supporters within a week that he is mounting a campaign to retake the Senate seat he lost to Democrat Jim Webb in 2006, according to Politico . There was no mention of a possible run on Allen’s website Monday . But he did post his picks for this past weekend’s NFL playoff games. For Allen’s sake, we hope his political future fares better than his prognosticating skills. The son of the former Redskins coach went 1-3 in the weekend games, correctly picking only the Green Bay- Atlanta game. Allen, 58, has already begun to line up key staff members for his 2012 run, according to Politico . Webb beat Allen by only 1 percent (thanks in part to an insensitive comment Allen made at a campaign stop in southwest Virginia) and has sent mixed signals about whether he will seek re-election. But DNC Chairman Tim Kaine, a former Virginia governor who could be the Democratic nominee if Webb were to bow out, has been telling friends he thinks Webb will run, Politico reported. The Senator has a very checkered past when it comes to racism. Flags: Since there has been a lot of talk about George Allen’s fondness for the Confederate flag , I acquired this video that Ryan Lizza writes about. “It’s hard to make out, because the video is fuzzy. The copy I obtained was originally recorded off a television using VHS in 1993 and then transferred to a second tape, further degrading the quality. But, once you know what it is, it makes sense. It sits folded on a bookcase of trophies and bric-a-brac behind George Allen, who is seated at a desk in his home office. “It’s right there next to the fax machine. You can see the red field. You can make out the diagonal blue bar. And you can see what looks like a white star. It is the Confederate flag, and it appears in the very first ad that Allen broadcast in 1993, when he ran for governor…” Can you guys make it out? Update : Allen’s ad-maker confirmed to TNR that the Confederate flag is there, but denies it was done on purpose. I for one will welcome back a chance to go up against George Allen, formerly known as Senator Macaca.
Continue reading …Not since Hollywood Reporter told us about a possible Asteroids bio-pic have we been excited about a film or TV show: Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Merv Griffin Entertainment has hammered out a deal with Namco Bandai to develop a reality TV show based on Pac-Man. Envisioned by Merv Griffin Entertainment’s president of TV Roy Bank as something “big” and “crazy” like Wipeout or Fear Factor , the company wants “to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world’s biggest game of tag to television.” If this doesn’t sound like the definition of a mid-season replacement, we don’t know what is.
