Philip Elliott at the Obama White House's state-compliant wire service reports, and distorts (bolds are mine): Barbour says Obama cheers for higher gas prices Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a potential presidential contender, accused the Obama administration Wednesday of favoring a run-up in gas prices to prod consumers to buy more fuel-efficient cars. Barbour cited 2008 comments from Steven Chu, now President Barack Obama's energy secretary, that a gradual increase in gasoline taxes could coax consumers into dumping their gas-guzzlers and finding homes closer to where they work. In 2008, while the head of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, Chu told The Wall Street Journal that energy prices were the lynchpin to an energy overhaul. “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” Chu said in September 2008. Obama has distanced himself from those comments … Barbour could have gone directly to Obama to support his contention at this video : Obama: I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. Without doubt, that means he's okay with the idea of high gas prices. I don't recall that Barack Obama has ever “distanced himself” from this assertion, which, if I recall correctly, was also made at least a couple of times in campaign appearances. Plenty of folks at Philip Elliott's state-compliant wire service know darned well that Barack Obama said what he said in 2008, but want to make readers believe that it's Haley Barbour who's making it all up. It's the AP which is making things up about the Obama and his administration's position, as Conn Carroll at Heritage detailed this morning (bolds and paragraph breaks are mine): … Back in February, when the protests in Egypt were first unfolding, Energy Secretary Steven Chu was asked what the Administration could do to combat rising world oil prices. Chu responded: “The best way America can protect itself against these incidents is to decrease our dependency on foreign oil, in fact to diversify our supply.” It is now one month later and the Administration has not updated its talking points. Pressed on gas prices yesterday, White House spokesman Jay Carney said: “We are also, as you have seen over the past two-plus years, very focused on the need precisely to develop other energy sources so that we are not as dependent on foreign oil as we have been in the past.” So what are these “other energy sources” the White House has been developing? How does the White House plan to “diversify supply” to reduce gas prices? The answers are corn, wind, sun, and electric cars. And they won’t help a bit. Phil Elliott, please note: There is no record of which I'm aware of Barack Obama “distancing himself” from Chu's or Carney's comments — and Carney supposedly speaks for him. Ralph Nader: Limbaugh and Hannity Part of ‘Huge Ignorance Movement’ on Global Warming

Ralph Nader said Tuesday conservative talk radio hosts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are part of a well-organized counter-scientific ignorance movement designed to prevent people from believing in the theory of manmade global warming. Sadly, this was said to a bunch of impressionable students at the College of New Jersey (video follows with transcript and commentary): STUDENT QUESTIONER AMANDA REDDINGTON: Over like a hundred countries recognize global warming and the negative effect people have on the environment. Do you, what’s your opinion on like America’s slow acceptance of this reality? RALPH NADER: It’s partly because there’s been a well-organized counter-scientific movement, pseudo-scientific attack. Clinton never pushed it, and Bush opposed it withdrew from it, right? Obama’s not pushing it. So, most of the environmental groups when they hear every day Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, you know, this huge ignorance movement going on. Who’s to counteract Limbaugh, right? You don’t get on if you offend corporate advertising. REDDINGTON: Okay, thank you. NADER: But they’ll learn as soon as things start melting. REDDINGTON: Yeah. NADER: The beaches and all that. They’ll learn. Look at Alaska. REDDINGTON: Yeah. Amazing. Al Gore and his green disciples have spent billions of dollars in recent years trying to convince the American people that this myth is real. They have as their minions virtually every media outlet in the nation with the exception of Fox News, conservative talk show hosts, right-wing bloggers, and a handful of publications. Yet, the reason the citizenry aren't buying into the fable hook, line and sinker is because of people like Limbaugh and Hannity. It really boggles the mind how people like this can be at all taken seriously. (H/T The Blaze )

Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR SGX543MP2 really is faster, better, stronger (video)

You may have heard of the PowerVR SGX543MP — you know, the GPU behind Sony’s NGP and possibly on its way to the iPad 2 and iPhone 5 — but chances are, you’ve yet to see it working up close. Well, feast your graphics-hungry eyes on this: that’s Futuremark’s Tai Chi benchmark running on a tellingly sheathed device, working the MP2 (dual-core) iteration of the processor, and that fine smartphone to its right is the Nexus S , sporting the PowerVR SGX540 you’ve come to know and love. As you can tell, Imagination Technologies’ promises of 4X the performance aren’t just baseless boasts — the lady on the left moves with grace and fluidity, while her counterpart on the right is all sorts of herky-jerky. Think that’s fast? Check out what the GPU can do with two more cores . Sean Hollister contributed to this report. Charting the upgrade path from DOS 5.0 to Windows 7 (video)

If you’re old enough to remember tweaking your Autoexec.bat and tackling IRQ conflicts, days when launching Windows required typing “win” at a command prompt, prepare for a blast of nostalgia. YouTuber Andrew Tait (aka “TheRasteri”) took a freshly minted VMWare instance and spent what looks to be a full day running through every version of Windows starting with DOS 5.0 and Windows 1.0, which was basically just Explorer paired with one heck of a crummy text editor. From there he dutifully leads us on a crazy upgrade path all the way up to modern times, charting interesting things like how long a version of Doom installed in DOS ran (failed in Windows 2000, but worked again in Windows XP) and when color settings made in Windows 2.0 were finally overwritten (also in 2000). It’s a 10 minutes in length and is probably the most interesting video you won’t watch today.
