Kaye also referred to Laura Ingraham's response to Schultz as “biting,” proving that she possibly was harder on Ingraham than on tyrant Sadaam Hussein back in 2006 . “Yeah, but you know when you hear the word 'slut' – I mean I hate to even say it on our air, to be honest with you – but there are mixed interpretations about the word,” Kaye told Kurtz. The media critic didn't buy it for a second. [Click here for audio. Video below the break.]

The first reference occurred today during the 10 a.m. EDT hour of “Jansing & Co.,” when Williams called the state measure the “show us your papers law.” Moments later, Williams led the top of 11 a.m. EDT hour of “MSNBC Live” by repeating the “show us your papers” line. The NBC correspondent took a break for about an hour before rephrasing the legislation during the 12 p.m. EDT hour as the “round up the usual suspects law.” In using police-state nomenclature, Williams joins an exclusive club of liberal bloggers whose cognitive abilities are limited to comparing the Republican Party to the Third Reich: On the Huffington Post , one creative headline reads: “Arizona's SB1070 Gestapo Law Reveals Right Wing Version of 'Liberty.'” On the ACLU of Nevada's site, the liberal attorneys employ esoteric legalese that would send Justice Scalia scrambling for the nearest thesaurus: “Arizona's 'show me your papers' law dealt a stunning blow.” Over at Firedoglake , one blogger triumphantly trumpets: “Obama DOJ files suit against Arizona’s 'show me your papers' law today.” With the rest of the day ahead of him, Williams has plenty of time to think of fun, new ways to repackage his Nazi propaganda. –Alex Fitzsimmons is a News Analysis intern at the Media Research Center. Continue reading …Ed Schultz's apology was full, unequivocal and a breath a fresh air. We wish Ed would have shown the same remorse when saying we should ‘rip out’ Dick Cheney’s heart, when he called Liz Cheney “shooter's little girl,” or when he said Republicans enjoyed watching people with cancer die. MSNBC should have demanded apologies for the litany of offenses in Ed’s past.

On Tuesday, the left-wing host had slimed the conservative talk radio host as a “right-wing slut” and a “radio slut.” (After Schultz’s statement, Thomas Roberts hosted the rest of the hour.) Schultz pleaded: “I am deeply sorry, and I apologize. It was wrong, uncalled for and I recognize the severity of what I said. I apologize to you, Laura, and ask for your forgiveness.” He added that “I also met with management here at MSNBC, and understanding the severity of the situation and what I said on the radio and how it reflected terribly on this company, I have offered to take myself off the air for an indefinite period of time with no pay.” The official NBC management statement, however, said he had agreed to “one week of unpaid leave.”

Ed will address these remarks on his show tonight, and immediately following begin his leave. Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. After the jump, Radio Equalizer’s audio of Schultz’s May 24 remarks. ED SCHULTZ: And what do the Republicans thinking about? They're not thinking about their next-door neighbor. They're just thinking about how much this is going to cost. President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday but you know what they're talking about, like this right-wing slut, what's her name?, Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she's a talk slut. You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama's doing it, they're working him over. [ Audio: Downloadable MP3 clip ] Mediaite caught Ingraham’s mocking reaction posted on her Facebook page: Re. the crude comments made about me by Ed Schultz on his radio program: First, I was surprised to learn that Ed Schultz actually hosted a radio show. Is it only available online? Second, I have to get back to recording the audio edition of my new book “Of Thee I Zing.” Now I’m tempted to insert one additional zing–about men who preach civility but practice misogyny.
