From P.J. O’Rourke : Perhaps you’re having a tiny last minute qualm about voting Republican. Take heart. And take the House and the Senate. Yes, there are a few flakes of dander in the fair tresses of the GOP’s crowning glory—an isolated isolationist or two, a hint of gold buggery, and Christine O’Donnell announcing that she’s not a witch. (I ask you, has Hillary Clinton ever cleared this up?) Fret not over Republican peccadilloes such as the Tea Party finding the single, solitary person in Nevada who couldn’t poll ten to one against Harry Reid. Better to have a few cockeyed mutts running the dog pound than Michael Vick. I take it back. Using the metaphor of Michael Vick for the Democratic party leadership implies they are people with a capacity for moral redemption who want to call good plays on the legislative gridiron. They aren’t. They don’t. The reason is simple. They hate our guts. They don’t just hate our Republican, conservative, libertarian, strict constructionist, family values guts. They hate everybody’s guts. And they hate everybody who has any. Democrats hate men, women, blacks, whites, Hispanics, gays, straights, the rich, the poor, and the middle class. Democrats hate Democrats most of all. Witness the policies that Democrats have inflicted on their core constituencies, resulting in vile schools, lawless slums, economic stagnation, and social immobility. Democrats will do anything to make sure that Democratic voters stay helpless and hopeless enough to vote for Democrats. Good stuff. Read the rest here .

In an interview with Al Hunt of Bloomberg News scheduled to be shown Friday night, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. commented on the need for disclosure when corporate interests contribute to political groups. “I was amazed at the amount of money, this $200 billion of money that is — where there’s no accountability,” he said. “When I say accountability, we don’t know where it’s coming from. There’s no disclosure, so the folks watching the ad can’t make a judgment based upon motive when you say it’s paid for by so-and-so.” Mr. Biden clearly meant “million” with an “M,” not “billion” with a “B.” But his tongue slipped again a moment later. “So it really — I’ve never seen this before, so the only caveat I’d put in terms of the House is how much impact this $200 billion are going to mean.” Even if the GOP spent $200 billion it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the $800 billion Obama spent on a Porkulus bill that accomplished nothing. At least the GOP ads will generate actual results. And if he’s so worried about
Continue reading …People wanted change and change is what they got : A majority of voters in key battleground races say President Obama has either brought no change to Washington or has brought change for the worse. In 10 competitive House districts, 41 percent of likely voters say Obama has brought change for the worse, and 30 percent say he has made no difference. Almost two years after Obama declared on election night that “change has come to America,” only 26 percent believe he’s delivered on his promise to end business-as-usual in the capital. Strikingly, 63 percent of voters under the age of 34 said the president either has not changed Washington or has made it worse. In 2008, voters under the age of 30 voted 2-to-1 for Obama against his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). But in The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll, only 34 percent of young people say the president has effected change for the better. Ah, the youth vote. I guess they won’t be swooning this year as they did in 2008.

Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania on Tuesday became the latest to decide that it was politically advantageous to jettison the first female House Speaker in history. It is becoming a trend, as vulnerable Democrats in conservative districts or tough races decide Pelosi’s San Francisco liberalism is too heavy of a weight to survive. The vanguard of outright Pelosi opponents includes Jim Marshall of Georgia, who has even run TV ads against the Speaker, Gene Taylor of Mississippi, Mike McIntyre of North Carolina, Peter DeFazio of Oregon, and Bobby Bright of Alabama. “We need to have leadership from the middle, conservative centrist leadership. It’s too hard to govern from the middle if you’re from the far left or the far right,” Marshall spokesman Doug Moore told The Daily Caller. Other House Democrats who have refused to commit to supporting Pelosi – indicating they too would like to see a change – include Walt Minnick of Idaho, Michael McMahon of New York, Scott Murphy of New York, Travis Childers of Mississippi, Dan Boren of Oklahoma, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Zack Space of Ohio, and Chet Edwards of Texas. TheDC contacted 50 conservative Blue Dog Democrats by phone and e-mail on Tuesday, and received only one response in support of Pelosi. And then there’s this : A new Gallup poll finds that Nancy Pelosi’s favorable rating is 29 percent — the lowest it has been since Pelosi became Speaker of the House. Fifty-six percent of those surveyed have an unfavorable view of Pelosi. I’m not sure her approval numbers are even that high among congressional Democrats right now. If the GOP retakes control of the House one of the most interesting post-election stories will be the future of Pelosi. Ousted Speakers don’t generally remain in the House – they retire from Congress and turn the minority leadership over to someone else. Could San Fran Nan bring herself to give up all political power and leave Washington where she’s lived for all these years and return to private life? She certainly would not be able to get enough votes in the Dem caucus to retain any sort of leadership position, and I don’t see Nancy taking a seat as a back-bencher. They may have to drag her kicking and screaming out of there.

If you’re a hardcore PlayStation fan, you might believe the answer to that question is “yes.” However, given the recent DisplaySearch findings on 3DTV adoption , we’re thinking more of you fall in with the leanings of Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, who is making it clear that he isn’t pushing the technology at this point: For better or for worse, people just don’t really have TVs in their house right now that are going to do 3D in a way that’s going to work… As a corporate mandate, I don’t need to sell you a new TV, that’s not part of my business model. Other companies maybe have that part of their business model. I don’t. “Other companies,” eh? Yeah, we think you can figure out who he’s talking about there. Phil isn’t just dishing up the Haterade, though, throwing props to Nintendo: “I like the 3DS , you don’t have to wear the glasses.” Microsoft’s Phil Spencer rains on Sony’s 3D parade, thinks 3DS has potential originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 20 Oct 2010 10:42:00 EDT. Martin O’Malley, D, right during his second debate with former Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich? Did O’Malley call illegal immigrants “new Americans”? Good thing I recorded that debate on a DVD. I replayed it Saturday night, and O’Malley’s exact quote was this, part of his response to a question about illegal immigration. “There is this nativism rising up and this desire to blame new Americans for the problems in our economy.” Yeah, he said it. And Ehrlich was quick to pounce on the gaffe. “If somebody breaks in my house, is that a new member of my family that night?” The level to which both parties go to pander to the Hispanic vote is really disgusting.

The $250 check is meant to make up for a second year without a cost-of-living increase due to low inflation. President Barack Obama has urged Congress to approve the $250 payment. House and Senate Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid say they will bring up the legislation when lawmakers return for the lame-duck session in November. In the meantime, Democrats are using the proposal to augment their campaign pitch that Republicans would undermine Social Security. “Instead of helping seniors,” Pelosi’s office said, “Republicans, backed by their allies on Wall Street, are threatening to privatize and cut Social Security, just as they tried to do under President Bush.” Added Reid, “The only thing standing in the way of America’s seniors receiving this critical support are Senate Republicans.” Actually, 12 Democrats and one independent who aligns himself with Democrats joined 37 Republicans in blocking the $250 bonus when Senate voted on the issue last March. Two of the Senate Democrats who voted against it then, Michael Bennet of Colorado and Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, are engaged in tough campaign battles to keep their seats. Democratic leaders in the House never brought the issue up for a vote. Obama first asked Congress for the $250 payment last February. “It’s clearly a last-ditch election-year Hail Mary,” said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio. If supplementing the incomes of seniors was really a priority, he said, Democrats would have acted on it before they adjourned for the campaign. Because congress will not be in session again until after the election all the Dems can do is make promises they can’t keep. I’m not sure voters will fall for that strategy…again.
