BoxWave Keyboard Buddy iPhone case review

Ever since Apple added Bluetooth keyboard support to iOS, manufacturers have been working to deliver products that add a hard keyboard to the iPhone with at least a little bit of style. We’ve checked out a number of these before — namely the Nuu Minikey and the TK-421 — but we’ve yet to find anything that actually makes it worth the extra bulk (not to mention battery consumption). BoxWave’s Keyboard Buddy is yet another sliding keyboard case built for the iPhone, but is it better than the rest? Read on past the break to find out. In a remarkable exchange on Lawrence O’Donnell’s The Last Word, Tennessee Rep. Phil Roe says he supports the repeal of ObamaCare and the Congressional health care plan, which he doesn’t use because he’s on Medicare now. It was amazing and surreal all the way around. Mark Meckler, Tea Party Whore Extraordinaire, was on claiming that the “American People” supported repeal on a 2:1 basis. Adam Green of Bold Progressives did a great job challenging Phil Roe to allow them to conduct a poll of progressive versus conservative ideas, which I think Roe agreed to. Green also corrected Meckler’s misstatement about people’s attitude toward the health care bill, pointing out that most people think it didn’t go far enough. I don’t have a transcript available of the entire exchange, but it’s worth the time to watch it, if for nothing more than the big laugh at the end when Roe says “repeal it all because he’s on Medicare.” Digby’s take on the repeal effort nails it: I suspect that the health care reform will be the Republicans’ most valuable hostage in the next two years. Indeed, it will be the one thing that both the administration and the Senate will fight to the death to preserve — it is Obama’s most important legacy and the Democrats spilled a lot of blood to get it through. It remains to be seen what the Republicans will extract from them in the negotiations. The repeal vote will be purely symbolic, as O’Donnell points out. But there will be a budget battle royale over funding the exchanges, the subsidies, and other provisions. That’s where Republicans will begin to unwind the hairball that is ObamaCare.

Samsung goes cubic with HT-D7100 Blu-ray home theater system, HW-D550 soundbar

Digging the cube-like stature of Samsung’s new BD-D7000 3D Blu-ray player, but on the hunt for a more complete package? Have a gander at the GT-D7100, an all-in-one Blu-ray home theater system that’s shaped more like a box and less like… well, conventional home cinema systems. There’s 2D-to-3D upconversion, a 2.1 channel sound system (with 110 watts of power), inbuilt WiFi, support for Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD Master Audio and support for Samsung Apps / Hub. If you’re looking for something more traditional, the HT-D6730W is a 7.1 channel surround system, complete with a WiFi-enabled 3D Blu-ray deck, wireless rear speakers, a pair of tower speakers, 1330 total watts of power and a wideband amplifier, two HDMI inputs and an iPod / iPhone dock cradle. In related news, the HW-D7000 Blu-ray AV receiver is being introduced, and it’s being described as the world’s first 7.1 channel AVR with an integrated 3D Blu-ray player. You’ll get four HDMI sockets, HDMI-CEC (Anynet), inbuilt WiFi, a Smart Hub (including internet radio) and a 120 watt x 7 channel amplifier. Finally, the HW-D550 soundbar measures 46-inches in length and offers 2.1 channel audio, 310 watts of power, a wireless subwoofer and a pair of HDMI connectors. Pricing information remains to be seen, but as with Samsung’s other CES introductions, these too will be on sale in 1H 2011. Samsung busts out SSG-3700CR active Bluetooth 3D glasses, wireless charging base station

They certainly aren’t able to claim a world’s first here, but our universe could still use a few extra alternatives to the flood of IR-based active 3D glasses on the market. Following up on XpanD’s announcement from CES 2010, Samsung has revealed its SSG-3700CR spectacles. Hailed as “featherlight, RF-enabled 3D active glasses,” these Bluetooth-equipped face accessories weigh less than a single ounce, can be operated in wired and wireless modes and are compatible with Sammy’s newest LCD and plasma HDTVs. You’ll also get an adjustable / removable nose pad, customized fitting options and the ability to add prescription glass, too. Oh, and since it’s physically impossible to own a pair of these without also handing over as much cash as necessary for a charging base, there’s the CY-SWC1000A. The outfit’s calling this the first wireless charging station for its 2011 3D activate glasses, supporting up to four sets at a time and looking fairly svelte all the while. It’s a crying shame that no one at Sammy is willing to talk dollars and cents, but if you’ve been following its other CES 2011 releases, you’ll accurately assume that these two will also ship at some point in the next six months. Pioneer reminds us that the future is here with nine Pandora-enabled head units

With some dark moodlighting and a little bit of chill electronica, Pioneer has unveiled what it believes to be the next step in in-car infotainment, and thank goodness it entails smartphone integration — what the company calls “the ideal personal device.” But, they say that ideal device is less-so in the car, so it’s time for some smarter head units. 9 Pioneer models available in 2011 will be compatible with Pandora , the cheapest costing just $150 — but that’s a catch: they only work with the iPhone . Yes, if you’re among the Apple devotees you’ll be able to stream radio directly through the head unit, with the higher-end units, the AVH-P3300BT, AVH-P4300DVD and AVH-P6300BT, having a large enough display to do album art and song information and whatnot. The AVH-P4300DVD and AVH-P6300BT are top of the line, with 7-inch touchscreens — and MSRPs at $500 and $700. Full details on all the models are in the PR below — or feel free to look at the pretty pictures. Pocketbook’s Mirasol Android tablet leaked in Qualcomm’s latest video?

Remember the Mirasol Android tablet that Pocketbook’s been teasing about since late November? Well, this could be it. Spotted in a new promotion video from Qualcomm , this slate sports a front-facing camera, four soft keys below the outdoor-friendly color display (likely to be of the bog-standard 5.7-inch size), and presumably a volume rocker plus a mute switch on the left. Other than that, there’s not much else to see here, but we’ll let you guys know right away when we spot the real thing here at CES . Videos after the break.
