Gun Crazy

By Eugene Robinson We may not be sure that the bloodbath in Tucson had anything to do with politics, but we know it had everything to do with our nation’s insane refusal to impose reasonable controls on guns. ‘Can We Get Someone To Shoot Sarah Palin’’: Twitter Users Call for Palin’s Death

The tweets are stunning, disturbing, and downright shocking. After the left shamelessly began its campaign to connect Saturday’s shooting to Sara Palin, Twitter users quickly picked up on the sentiment and responded with violent, hateful speech. Some were succinct: “I hope Sarah Palin dies.” Others were prophetic: “So…will everyone be satisfied then when Palin is assassinated? You know she’s next.”… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : The Blaze Discovery Date : 11/01/2011 05:53 Number of articles : 10

Unity Government Is Possible, Ivory Coast Envoy Says

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (Reuters) — Alassane Ouattara, the internationally recognized winner of Ivory Coast’s presidential election, would form a unity government with members of the party of President Laurent Gbagbo as long as Mr. Gbagbo stepped down first, the country’s ambassador to the United Nations said. World powers and African states have heaped pressure on Mr. Gbagbo to cede the presidency to Mr. Ouattara after the provisional results of a Nov. 28 election showed Mr. Ouattara as having won by an eight-point margin. Mr. Gbagbo “has followers, he has competent people in his party,” the ambassador, Youssoufou Bamba, said in an interview with the BBC that was…

3D is dangerous / not dangerous: optometrist group defends Nintendo 3DS edition

Much has been made of Nintendo’s 3DS warning that the six-and-under crowd should probably stick to 2D mode, and while CEO Iwata has consented that “being proactive about informing our customer…. may not necessarily be positive for our sales,” the American Optometric Association has put an interesting spin on all this. The group released a statement last week — yes, during CES madness — asserting that 3D viewing “may actually help uncover subtle disorders that, left uncorrected, often result in learning difficulties.” Not only that, but the 36,000-strong group suggested “children younger than six can use the 3DS in 3D mode if their visual system is developing normally.” So yeah, Little Timmy’s Christmas 2011 isn’t ruined just yet, but that leaves plenty of time for a competing study to come out confusing everyone even further. 3D is dangerous / not dangerous: optometrist group defends Nintendo 3DS edition originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 11 Jan 2011 00:10:00 EDT. 8 Dead In New Flood As Australia’s Crisis Worsens

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) – Rescuers raced Tuesday to reach people trapped on roofs after a flash flood sent a massive wall of water through a valley in Australia’s waterlogged east, tossing cars like toys, killing at least eight people and leaving 72 missing, officials said. The sudden surge near the town of Toowoomba after a storm Monday lifted Australia’s 2-week-old flood crisis in Queensland state to a new level and brought the overall death toll to 18. Until then, the flooding had unfolded slowly as swollen rivers burst their banks and inundated towns while moving downstream toward the ocean. Emergency services officers plucked more than 40 people from houses…
