Canalys: Android overtakes Symbian as world’s best-selling smartphone platform in Q4 2010

One day somebody will write a book called “The rise and rise of Android” and this moment will be highlighted in bold. Canalys’ latest smartphone sales figures show that Android phone makers managed to shift a cool 33.3 million handsets in the last quarter — more than any other smartphone platform out there, including the previous leader, Symbian, which sold 31 million units. Egypt’s Uprising: Why the U.S. Needs to Embrace Change

It is increasingly apparent that the crisis in Egypt will end in one of two ways: either the hundreds of thousands of people demanding Hosni Mubarak’s ouster will succeed in toppling him, or the Egyptian army will quash the demonstrations by force. Any expectation that Mubarak’s token gestures of “reform” – like appointing his intelligence czar as Vice President – would placate the masses has proven illusory. The people are not backing down. They won’t tolerate an interim government or wait until elections in September. Outside of resignation, the only option left for Mubarak is to order a violent crackdown, which the army may or may not be willing to carry out. A tense stalemate may last…
