China pumped up its interest rates for the third time in four months today, in a desperate attempt to rein in inflation. One-year deposit rates rose to 3%, and the one-year lending rate to 6.06%, the New York Times reports, and analysts expect still more increases down the road.

The Conservation Alliance is based on a very simple premise. It’s a dating service. Member businesses in the US outdoor industry donate money to the Alliance, who in the meantime have collated applications from grassroots conservation organizations. The donated monies are then matched with as many saving-wild-places type projects, as there is funds for. Protecting wild places protects not only natural habitat for flora and fauna, but also the arenas where these companies customers recreate. Everyone wins. It’s no Bill Paxton Pinball , but Ben Heck’s portable Sega Genesis CDX is certainly up there in terms of superfluous gaming mods. As Heck points out, a lot of the console’s games were “FMV nonsense,” but, like most gaming systems, the 1994-released CDX had its ardent supporters. For those of you who fit the description, Heck’s combined the CD drive and motherboard from an old CDX with a chopped six-button Genesis controller, an old camcorder battery, and a four-inch LCD screen to bring you a bulky but portable console. Huawei, the company whose name rhymes with the typical response of ” who are they ,” has uploaded a few images to its Flickr page teasing new hardware bound for this year’s Mobile World Congress. First up is the IDEOS X3, an Android handset seemingly set to provide a more budget-oriented family mate to the X5 . It has two cameras, one on the front and one on the back, three Android buttons, and at least four different color options (red, blue, silver and black). The Barcelona event will see it joined by an IDEOS S7 Slim tablet, also running Google’s mobile OS, though our knowledge about that device doesn’t extend any further than noting it too has a front-facing camera. The Roman Catholic Church has approved a recent iTunes addition called Confession, a $1.99 app that bills itself as “the perfect aid for every penitent.” As you can see above, it lets you pick a commandment and tick off all your sins, keeping a running tally to bring into the confessional with you — a sort of anti-tasklist, if you will. Can’t find your particular misstep? No problem! You’re able to add your own, custom dastardly deeds, filling in those gaps the app’s authors didn’t think anyone would fill. Now all it needs is a random sin selector: shake the phone to instantly get a wicked suggestion.
