Well, we didn’t exactly have high hopes when we got first glimpse at the CVS LookBook from a leaked flier , and our lowered expectations have now been satisfied. The Digital Reader has taken the thing for a spin and, as it turns out, it’s an ever so slightly modified version of the Literati that scored its own terrible review just a few weeks ago. The $150 CVS version suffers the same issues, including a complete inability to read e-books downloaded to SD card or copied onto internal memory. Also, battery life is poor, performance is slow, the margins are off, and there’s no web browser. Positives? Well, it has physical buttons for page turning and… yeah. With the Kindle just a click away at $139, it’s hard to see anyone wanting the LookBook, you may be tempted while picking up your ‘scripts. Shocker! The NAACP released a report condemning the Tea Party Movement. This is nothing less than desperation on the part of an organization which is increasingly irrelevant in today’s modern politics and makes its money by fomenting racial strife. I’ll let Andrew Breitbart provide the response: Don’t ask me what I think of the NAACP’s desperate, politically timed report, ask Cedra Crenshaw, Damon Dunn, Tim Scott, Ryan Frazier, Allen West, Star Parker, Bill Marcy, Charlotte Bergmann, Robert Broadus, Ryan Frazier, Charles Lollar, Stephen Broden, Michel Faulker, Bill Randall, Patrick David King, Chuck Smith and Isaac Hayes, all conservative black candidates running for higher office, endorsed and embraced by tea parties around the country. This malicious “report” is crafted and timed as a cynical means to scare the black community to the voting booth, and is dutifully played up by the same media that ignores the aforementioned black conservative candidates because it goes against the “narrative”. The move by the NAACP is amazingly tone deaf. Calling millions of Americans racist will do nothing to promote racial harmony in this country, nor will it advance the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. who longed for a day when people would be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Continue reading …It may be B.Y.O.D. at the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert comedy rallies in Washington on Halloween weekend ( Bring Your Own Diaper ): The calls of nature may be particularly loud at an upcoming D.C. event if attendees don’t have a place to “go.” Comedy Central organizers are having a hard time finding port-o-potties for their rallies to take place in a week and a half, after the Marine Corps Marathon planners snatched up about 800 of them for the same weekend. The organizers of Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity and Stephen Colbert’s March to Keep Fear Alive, both to take place Saturday, Oct. 30, have asked the marathon staff to share the portable toilets with their 65,000 expected to attendees. But the Marines aren’t budging — they plan to lock the toilets until the morning of their race the day after, they tell the New York Times. The National Park Service requires portable toilets for events expected to exceed capacity of “comfort facilities” on NPS property, according to a department document. They recommend one toilet for every 300 people. An NPS spokesperson tells WTOP that comedy Central should be able to get more port-o-potties in the greater D.C. area. Sounds like the Marine Corps is giving them the old Semper FU . To paraphrase Rush they should go in their own pants. It will be good practice for Nov. 2nd.

A Virginia fourth-grade textbook falsely claims that “Thousands of Southern blacks fought in the Confederate ranks” during the Civil War. The author of the book relied heavily on a pro-Confederacy group she found on the Internet. Washington Post via NPR: The Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group of male descendants of Confederate soldiers based in Columbia, Tenn., has long maintained that substantial numbers of black soldiers fought for the South The group’s historian-in-chief, Charles Kelly Barrow, has written the book “Black Confederates.” The Sons of Confederate Veterans also disputes the widely accepted conclusion that the struggle over slavery was the main cause of the Civil War. Instead, the group says, the war was fought “to preserve their homes and livelihood,” according to John Sawyer, chief of staff of the Sons of Confederate Veterans’ Army of Northern Virginia. He said the group was pleased that a state textbook accepted some of its views. Read more Historians, of course, reject such nonsense. Most troubling of all, the book made it through a series of checks and was labeled “accurate and unbiased” by the Virginia Education Department.
