They’ve just issued a press release stating that of six technologies nominated for IMT-Advanced (the formal name for 4G) certification, just two have emerged victorious: 802.16m WiMAX 2 — also known as WirelessMAN-Advanced — and LTE-Advanced . That would leave Sprint, Verizon, and everyone else currently deploying WiMAX and LTE technically false in advertising their latest-generation services as “4G,” though with so many technologies crowding the 3G space, we can’t necessarily blame them; heck, even EDGE and CDMA2000 without EV-DO technically qualify as 3G in the eyes of the ITU, so yeah, the situation is really just as muddled as ever. For what it’s worth, neither 802.16m nor LTE-Advanced are live anywhere in the world — and they aren’t expected to be for some time — so whether you like it or not, the UN says you’re still living a 3G existence no matter where you’re located. So close! Follow the break for the ITU’s release. Bush pulled back the curtain of the Oval Office and gave East Texans a picture of what his job was like during the high and low points. With trademark humor and conviction, he said he sought to lead with vision and optimism and to leave the office equal to or better than it was when he arrived. “Here’s what you learn,” he said. “You realize you’re not it. You’re a part of something bigger than yourself.” Bush spoke Tuesday before a sold-out crowd of 2,000 people during the 76th lecture as part of The University of Texas at Tyler’s Distinguished Lecture Series. He walked on the stage to a standing ovation. People in the audience were pumping their fists and whistling. One audience member shouted, “Bring back Bush,” at one point during the presentation. He would receive at least two more standing ovations before the end of his speech. Read the rest of the story. It’s a reminder of what we lost when Bush left office and the socialists took over.

On the show, the host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.” Mr. O’Reilly said, “The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.” Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. O’Reilly. He continued: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.” Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. “He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts,” Mr. Williams said. What does this say about Williams? Nothing, really. He’s right. What does this say about NPR? They’re afraid of Muslims. I’ll never forget the emotion Williams expressed as he saw the first black man accept the nomination of the Democrats for president, and again when Obama was inaugurated. Although Obama was never my choice and he’s certainly been a screw-up, back in those days the magic was still there and for a black man like Williams, it was powerful. I imagine with new newly found free time Williams’ presence on Fox will increase. Though he comes from the left he’s always been a voice of reason and NPR has lost a very talented guy.
