Western states dismiss Burma’s election

Burma has banned international journalists from reporting from inside Burma Continue reading the main story Burma: Battle for Democracy How democratic will election be? Aung San Suu Kyi: Fading light? David v Goliath in Rangoon Burma election: Q&A Western powers have dismissed Burma’s first general election for two decades, describing it as neither free nor fair. During a visit to India, US President Barack Obama said “for too long the people of Burma have been denied the right to determine their own destiny”. UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday’s election would “mean the return to power of a brutal regime”. Two parties linked to the military are expected to dominate the poll. The…

ASUS Eee PC 1215T with AMD Neo on sale now

Been waiting on an Eee PC 1215N with an AMD Neo processor ? Or how about an Eee PC 1015T with a 12.1-inch display? We know, you need a damn almanac to keep up with all of ASUS’ netbooks, but if you have in fact been waiting on the respective strengths of those two Eee PC variants, the company’s got you covered with its new 1215T. Forgoing the Intel Atom / NVIDIA Ion 2 combo for a single core 1.7GHz AMD Athlon K125 processor, the 12.1-inch notbook (our word for a machine that’s not really a netbook anymore) packs 2GB of RAM, an 320GB hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium. The system looks to have the same chassis as the $485 Eee PC 1215N we reviewed not too long ago, but instead rings up at around $436 on Amazon right now. We obviously haven’t tested the AMD version nor have we seen any reviews, but we’d venture to guess that while you may save $50, you’ll give up the better battery life of the Intel / Ion-powered 1215N — the AMD Neo laptops we’ve tested haven’t lasted longer than four hours on a charge. That’s just our hunch, but hey, don’t let us stop you from hitting that source link and ordering one right now. Guinea poll proceeds as tension simmers

Conakry – Guineans cast their ballots on Sunday in a vote that has been delayed multiple times following violent ethnic clashes that pitted the nation’s two largest ethnic groups against each other. The ethnic divide between supporters of rival candidates Cellou Dalein Diallo and Alpha Conde has overshadowed what was supposed to be a historic vote for the African nation of 10 million, which has never had a vote considered free and fair. Election observers said voting was calm and that they had recorded only minor problems, including insufficient voting materials in some polling stations. No major incidents were reported by midday. Bernard Kouchner, the foreign minister of France – Guinea’s…

Kurtz: Rove’s Fundraising For GOP ‘a Lot Worse’ Than Olbermann Donation

On Friday's Situation Room, The Daily Beast's Howard Kurtz stated that the fundraising activities of Fox News contributors Dick Morris and Karl Rove somehow rose to a worse level than Keith Olbermann's maximum individual donations to three Democrats, which violated MSNBC's policy. Kurtz also suggested that both networks “tighten up on this stuff or just tear up the rule book.” Correspondent Mary Snow covered Olbermann's suspension during a report just before the bottom of the 6 pm Eastern hour. Snow began by noting how the anchor “has become a star power at MSNBC for voicing his liberal opinions, but Keith Olbermann is now sidelined for financially supporting three Democratic candidates. Records show he contributed $2,400 each to Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway, and two members of Congress from Arizona: Gabrielle Giffords and Raul Grijalva.” She continued that “Congressman Grijalva was a guest on Olbermann's show October 28, the same day Olbermann donated to his campaign.” Later, after recounting how the MSNBC personality has been “a vocal critic of Fox and its parent company, News Corp, for donating $1 million to the Republican Governors Association,” the CNN correspondent played her clip from Kurtz, who gave his take on the Olbermann suspension and on the Fox News contributors' fundraising: read more

Bill Press this weekend said Barack Obama has created more jobs in the past 20 months than George W. Bush did in his entire eight years in office. As readers will see from the actual data compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Press's comments made on the “McLaughlin Group” were so false it's laughable (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Qantas finds more ‘issues’ with engines

7:00 AM Monday Nov 8, 2010 Share Email Print Expand Shrink Qantas has found issues with three more Rolls-Royce jet engines on its grounded Airbus A380 fleet, dashing the likelihood of their early return to service. Two engines – on aircraft in Sydney and Los Angeles – have been taken off for closer inspection as a result of the eight-hour tests Rolls-Royce recommended, Australian newspapers say. It now seems increasingly unlikely that the grounding of the fleet will be limited to the 48 hours outlined by chief executive Alan Joyce on Friday, the report in the Sydney Morning Herald says. Thousands of people will experience delays as the airline shuffles its fleet to cover the grounded A380s,…
