Iran claimed Sunday it could now use domestically mined uranium to produce nuclear fuel, giving the country complete control over a process the West suspects is geared toward producing weapons. Tehran made the claim a day before a new round of nuclear talks with world powers…

Gary Hart that partisanship and gridlock was the worst

The former South African president stepped in as world powers called for a peaceful resolution to the November 28 election, which was meant to end a decade of conflict but has been marred by deadly violence. The 53-member African Union (AU) dispatched Mbeki to try to avert “a crisis of incalculable consequences”. Mbeki has previously helped mediate a peace deal…

Continue reading …Via Open Left, this heartbreaking story: Tiffany Tate needs a lung transplant. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was just four months old. It is a condition that’s made it impossible to work full time, impossible to get health insurance. Her lungs will deteriorate with age. So at age 27, Tiffany Tate needs a lung transplant. But in our third story, if all that were not enough, add one new obstacle because Tiffany Tate lives in Arizona. And she is just the latest person to fall victim to Governor Jan Brewer and the death panel. She joins me in a moment. As we have reported on this news hour, Governor Brewer and state Republican lawmakers have cut funding for arizona’s Medicaid program access, thus denying life-saving organ transplants to low-income patients. The governor calls the program a “Cadillac plan” and has defended her death panel by explaining that transplants qualify as “Cadillac” and optional care.

Hanley are finding some recreational time while they are reporting from Cancun about what's happening at the ” United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.” The pair's bosses ought to be asking them how much real attention they are paying to the festivities since they began. For example, as far as I can tell from two reports by Mr. Max ( here and here ), he seems to have missed the opening prayer to the pagan goddess Ixchel; Ken Shepherd at NewsBusters took note of it from thousands of miles away.

We obviously have our own feelings on the matter, but those who can’t be bothered with actual functionality should definitely be looking in the direction of Frontal Concepts. This Australian outfit has just released its first product, and it’s far and away the most sensibly designed iPod nano watch strap to date. Rather than just looping a band through the device’s rear clip, the Infuse strap actually has a simple, one-click locking mechanism to keep your digital timepiece in position. It’s also positioned to allow the audio cord to run upwards along the arm, and it’s built from polycarbonate plastics and silicone — plenty tough to withstand the occasional gym visit. Americans can get their pre-order in today for $24.95 (black, white and brown hues are available), with the first shipments expected to head out in around a fortnight. Time’s ticking, Santa.
