The Engadget Podcast, live at 7:30PM EST!

We do our best to keep you on your toes, but it appears as if you’re onto us: we’re doing a podcast today, at 7:30PM. It might be a little late as we wrap some of our end-of-week projects (we’re trying to build a really tall tower of paper cups in the Engadget HQ den, but Nilay keeps knocking it over), but we promise you it will happen. Today. Approximately. Check out the stream and chat after the break. P.S. And don’t forget that Ustream has Android and iPhone clients as well, if you’re out and about and you can’t join in on the Flash-based fun below. Media Matters Launching Whistleblower for Fox Employees at MediaMatters.org

Click here to view this media Media Matters’ Eric Boehlert joined Ed Schultz to discuss the leaked email that David posted about earlier here today, and the launch of their new email address where Fox employees can contact them anonymously. Fox exec directs staff to slant news reporting : Media Matters releases internal Fox emails obtained from network source, encourages more to come forward Washington, DC — Today, Media Matters for America released emails, obtained from a Fox News source, showing Washington managing editor Bill Sammon directing staff not to use the phrase “public option” when discussing health care reform legislation. The emails, which were sent during the height of the health care debate, echoed Republican pollster Frank Luntz’s appearance on Hannity where he encouraged host Sean Hannity not to use “public option,” but instead use the term “government option” because “if you call it the ‘government option,’ the public is overwhelmingly against it.” “Fox News’ overt political activism — as evidenced in this instance by Sammon’s email — has gotten so bad that network insiders are coming to us to help expose it,” said Ari Rabin-Havt, Executive Vice President at Media Matters . “Fox can expect much more.” Rabin-Havt added: “We’re also launching whistleblower@mediamatters.org , an email address where conscientious Fox News employees can anonymously send examples of their employer’s complete disregard for journalism.” Hopefully they’ll get some more tips like this one soon.

Modder creates robotic Level 10 case, intimidates fellow gamers in the process

Thermaltake’s Level 10 chassis is not only pretty bad-ass in its own right, it’s also inspired Stephen “LeatherFace” Popa to do a little case moddin’ . WikiLeaks cables: Pope wanted Muslim Turkey kept out of EU

Vatican diplomats also lobbied against Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez and wanted ‘Christian roots’ enshrined in EU constitution A WikiLeaks cable reports that Pope Benedict XVI, seen here being received by Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara in 2006, ‘might prefer to see Turkey develop a special relationship short of EU membership’. Photograph: Dylan Martinez/AFP/Getty Images The pope is responsible for the Vatican’s growing hostility towards Turkey joining the EU, previously secret cables sent from the US embassy to the Holy See in Rome claim. In 2004 Cardinal Ratzinger, the future pope, spoke out against letting a Muslim state join, although at the time the Vatican was formally…

FCC report finds 68 percent of US broadband connections aren’t really broadband

As the FCC itself has made abundantly clear, the definition of “broadband” is an ever-changing one, and its latest report has now revealed just how hard it is for the US to keep up with those changes. According to the report, a full 68 percent of “broadband” connections in the US can’t really be considered broadband, as they fall below the agency’s most recent minimum requirement of 4 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream. Also notable, but somewhat buried in the report, are the FCC’s findings on mobile broadband use. The agency found that mobile wireless service subscribers with mobile devices and “data plans for full internet access” grew a hefty 48% to 52 million in the second half of 2009, and that when you consider all connections over 200 kbps, mobile wireless is actually the leading technology at 39.4 percent, ahead of cable modems and ADSL at 32.4 and 23.3 percent, respectively. When it comes to connections over 3 Mbps, however, cable modems account for a huge 70 percent share. Looking for even more numbers? Hit up the link below for the complete report.
