Continue reading …It may not be quite as whimsical as some of Panasonic’s other robots , but the company’s new “Parallel link” manufacturing bot might just be one of the most important the company’s developed in some time. Not only does it boast a 50% reduction in power consumption compared to some traditional one-armed manufacturing robots, but it’s able to learn new tasks simply by having someone move its arm through the motions. It also supposedly has an “affordable” price, although we’re guessing it’s still a bit out of reach if you’re just looking for something to help out around the house. Head on past the break to check it out in action. Continue reading …There’s not a ton of details on this one just yet, but Hyundai IT is reportedly showing off this 70-inch multitouch table at at the Korea Electronics Show this week — in concept form, at least. While there’s no specs — apart from the fact that it’s “HD” — Hyundai is apparently saying that you’d be able to use the display either as a Surface -like multitouch table or as a TV, although it’s not clear if that means it actually tilts up. Contrary to appearances, however, the table apparently doesn’t function as a phone. Here’s hoping Hyundai will actually show it off in action once the show gets underway. Continue reading …Okay, now that we’ve got a bigger shot of this thing, we can definitely say that it’s neither a Pre nor a Pre Plus … so assuming it’s not some sophisticated fake, you’re feasting your eyes on Palm’s next-gen model here. Given how close it is to the model it’ll presumably be replacing, we can’t help but feel like the Pre 2 should’ve actually been the phone we call the Pre Plus today — and it should’ve launched six (or more) months ago — but in the event webOS 2.0 doesn’t come to older devices, we suppose that alone will be the impetus some current owners need to upgrade. ‘Course, the 1GHz processor should be nice, too. Hit up the source link for a few more shots of it slinking around the wild; meanwhile, we await Palm’s move on an official announce. Continue reading …ZTE didn’t exactly manage to impress with its low-cost ZTE Racer Android handset, but the company’s now back with yet another Android device: the 7-inch ZTE Light tablet. Not a ton in the way of surprises here, as you might expect, but the tablet does cover all the basics with Android 2.1, WiFi and 3G connectivity, built-in GPS, an SD card slot for expansion, and a promised ten hours of battery life — along with what appears to be a custom Android skin. No word on pricing just yet, but the tablet is apparently now on display at the Beijing Exhibition and should be launching soon. Full press release is after the break. Continue reading …Cherry Red and Midnight Black too harsh for your innocent eyes? How’s about a gaggle of pastel options to take the edge off? Acer has just issued a new line of netbooks catering to those still stuck in the 70s, with the flower-powered Aspire One Happy range offering the most delightful lids of any netbook, ever. But while you’ve been able to sideload the Market apk on lots of these devices, there were apparently compatibility issues with Archos’ new Android 2.1 / 2.2 tablets (like the Archos 32 we reviewed just a few weeks). But fear not: ArchosFans to the rescue! A forum member successfully complied a new gApps4Archos.apk that can be easily sideloaded, and installed to give you access to all that Google app and Marketplace goodness. Obviously, we we whipped out our 32 and tried it out ourselves. We did have a few issues at first — you must have the latest 1.0.70 firmware and we had to reboot a few times to successfully connect to Google’s servers — but we were finally able to log into our Gmail and download Pandora. If you’re adventurous enough to try it out for yourself, we’d suggest hitting the source link and getting to it. Oh, and feel free to let us know how it goes in the comments. Continue reading …The so-called BlackBerry Style got kind of lost in all the recent PlayBook noise, but fear not, clamshell lovers — it seems the phone is still very much on track. Some literature leaked this week by way of BGR suggests that it’ll be called “Oxford” at retail, and that a gray version will be launching at the tail end of this month — October 31, to be exact — for $99.99 on contract after rebates and discounts, while a purple version will follow on soon thereafter. For what it’s worth, we’ve been hearing from other sources recently that the name of this thing is still Style, not Oxford, but it’s more than possible that they’ve made a last-minute branding decision internally. We prefer Style, we think… but regardless of what it’s called, we’d wager the wild QWERTY clam format is going to make for some pretty polarizing water cooler chat. Continue reading …Hardcore hobbyists have been controlling their Mindstorms NXT creations with all sorts of paraphernalia for years, but now Lego itself is stepping in to lend a hand. The new MINDroid app just splashed down in the Android Market, and it enables Android 2.1 (or greater) handsets to dictate Mindstorms NXT robots over Bluetooth. According to Lego, tilting / turning the phone can make the robot move forward, turn to the sides, and by pressing an action button on the phone’s screen, activate the ‘Action’ motor. Given that the download will cost you absolutely nothing, what are you waiting for? Your robot army awaits your commands.
