NextComputer Vigor Evo rugged PC shipping with three displays, 11TB storage

NextComputer has a line on the types of PCs we will always lust over, yet we’ll never ever be able to justify purchasing. Case in point: the Vigor Evo Plus is a thirty-five-plus pound behemoth, featuring a rugged mil-anodized external chassis, shock-mounted internal chassis, and options including a single or dual Xeon, up to 16GB ECC RAM, up to 11TB storage, up to six full-length, full-height PCI Express and PCI-X slots, and up to three integrated 17-inch displays. Call the company for a price quote if you’re curious — we weren’t up to the task, but we’re sure that it’s either this bad boy or our rent for the better part of a year. PR after the break. HP Envy 17 review

HP Envy 17 review

When it comes to selecting our favorite mainstream Windows laptops these days the HP Envy 14 is pretty much at the tippy top of the list. (Hey, we don’t just give anything away to our college-bound readers, you know?) But while the 14-inch version of the magnesium-alloy laptop may have impressed us with its new backlit keyboard and internal organs, we’ve still been aching to know how the bigger and badder Core i7-powered Envy 17 stands up. With a 1920 x 1080-resolution 17.3-inch display, 1GB of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics, a USB 3.0 port and Blu-ray drive, can you really blame us? There’s no doubt that the Envy 17 is one epic desktop replacement, but for $1,599 (the starting price is $1,299) we’ve got to tell you you’re not purchasing perfection. Just what holds back the Envy 17 from being the be-all end-all multimedia monster? We’ll divulge all in our full review after the break. Dell Streak, HTC Surround, white Samsung Fascinate, and Taylor Swift-ified white SE X10 coming to Best Buy exclusively

We’ve got a little more detail on those four new pre-orderable phones up in Best Buy Mobile’s business this week now that the news has gone from leak status to official, and needless to say, the truth is even stranger than fiction. The Dell Streak will be available for the first time in retail stores for $299.99 on contract come October 24, joined by a white version of Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate for $149.99 on contract; those two will be followed on November 8 by the HTC Surround for $199. Here’s where it gets interesting, though: the white Sony Ericsson X10 for AT&T — also rumored in our original leak — will come pre-loaded with “The Essential Taylor Swift Experience,” which frankly doesn’t paint a picture of the target demographic we’d really expected. But hey, we like surprises! What does her essential experience entail, exactly? Two albums, a new single, ringtone and video content, and access to her new album when it launches on October 25. This bad boy also comes in on October 24 for $99 on contract. Best Buy claims that all four of these are in-store exclusives… which, particularly with the Surround, is pretty insane. Follow the break for the press release. SMK-Link PadDock 10 review

It’s funny that the most interesting iPad accessories so far have been the ones that try to squeeze Apple’s tablet into more traditional shapes — we’ve seen a wave of rebranded Bluetooth keyboard cases that ape the netbook form factor, a number of cases that aim for a Moleskine vibe (including some from Moleskine itself ), and even an official Etch-a-Sketch case . And now we’ve got SMK-Link’s PadDock 10, an iPad stand that unapologetically turns your tablet into the tiny touchscreen iMac you’ve maybe always wanted. But is it worth $99 for a rotating stand and some speakers? We just got one to play with — read on for our full review. SteelSeries celebrating Cataclysm with new WoW MMO gaming mouse

SteelSeries has that very special distinction of building officially branded equipment for World of Warcraft, and now, two years after launching its original WoW mouse , the company is back with a “Cataclysm” mouse to celebrate the upcoming expansion to the world’s biggest MMO . The mouse has the similar advantage of its predecessor of close software ties to WoW itself, with 14 programmable buttons that can handle 130+ preset commands, and the ability to store 10 character profiles in software and one in the mouse itself. Also, thankfully, the mouse is Mac friendly out of the gate this time, and the software also controls the LED lights running down the back and “four different pulsation levels” for an extra bit of flair. For those of you who care for the pro gaming pedigree of SteelSeries, you’ll be interested to know that the original WoW mouse was actually mostly built by Ideazon before SteelSeries bought the company, so this is the first from the ground up to use SteelSeries technology and know-how. For everybody else: it has pretty lights! The mouse will retail for $100 in December, launching alongside World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Viewsonic rolls out 24-inch V3D241wm-LED monitor with 3D glasses

We’ve yet to see the full wrath of Viewsonic’s ambitious 3D plans , but the company has at least now rolled out one new device: the 24-inch V3D241wm-LED 3D monitor. That naturally comes complete with a pair of (active) 3D glasses, and Viewsonic insists that the monitor’s 120Hz frame rate and 2ms response time make it ideal for both gaming and movies. You’ll also get a pair of built-in two watt speakers, 300 nits of brightness, a supposed 20,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and the usual Eco mode to cut down on power consumption. Still no official word on a release over here, but you can now grab this one in the UK for

Nokia N8 review

The first time Nokia’s N8-00 popped up on our radar was way back in early February of this year. On that chilly, misty morning, we learned of a mythical being capable of shooting 12 megapixel stills, recording 720p video, outputting via HDMI, and — most importantly — ushering in the promised Symbian^3 touch revolution. It’s been a long road of leaks , teasers , hands-ons , and previews since then, but at long last, the legend of the N8 has become a purchasable commodity. All the early specs have survived, including the 3.5-inch AMOLED display, but the key question today, as it was at the beginning, relates to that all-new software within: does Symbian^3 succeed in elevating Nokia’s touchscreen experience or does it drag down an otherwise stellar combination of high-end parts? For that verdict and much, much more, join us after the break. Stuart Hughes strikes again with world’s most expensive, diamond covered iPhone 4

We’ve already established that if you’re filthy rich, you probably don’t want the same cell phone as common folk. No, if you’re looking for something higher end, you’ll probably end up talking to Stuart Hughes , who customizes electronics by plating them in gold and diamonds. We’ve already seen his work on a $20,000 iPhone 4 , but his latest achievement is downright ridiculous. Called the ‘world’s most expensive phone’ (we’ll see how long that lasts), Hughes made two identical models for an Australian client. Each handset includes over 500 diamonds and totals over 100 karats, and comes in its own special granite box. It’s total cost is

Focus Design’s SBU self-balancing unicycle hits 2.0: faster, stronger, sleeker, zanier

And here you were thinking Focus Design had thrown in the towel after producing just one self-balancing unicycle . Silly you, huh? Nearly two years to the day after the aforesaid company cranked out the goofiest transporter since the Segway , along comes the SBU v2.0 to rekindle our hope in humanity. According to the outfit, this newfangled edition is sleeker, safer and more powerful, and better still, it should be “much easier to learn.” Focus is also tossing out a somewhat ambiguous guarantee, noting that it’ll most certainly be “an instant crowd-pleaser.” The newly designed motor packs 1,000 watts of power (compared to 350 watts on v1.0), and the more powerful battery will keep you cruising on Ventura Boulevard for at least a few more minutes than before. Control freaks will appreciate the addition of three gyro sensors (to monitor pitch, roll and yaw), lowered foot pegs and a regenerative braking system. This marvel of modern engineering is expected to start shipping next month, with just $1,499 and a willingness to try something your mother wouldn’t recommend standing between you and… well, something that your mother would never recommend. Vid’s after the break. DC Fast Charger joins the ECOtality EV charging station fleet, looks like a fuel pump

You can’t help but smile, can you? ECOtality ‘s latest entrant into the rapidly expanding Blink line of EV chargers looks awfully familiar to avid motorists, and for good reason. Designed to mimic a conventional petrol pump, the DC Fast Charger should blend right in when installed in Best Buy parking lots , gas stations and beyond, with the company aiming to get these positioned in a wide variety of locations in order to ease “range anxiety.” We’re also told that motorists will eventually be able to utilize the Blink Network Smartphone Application in order to locate the nearest charging station and receive GPS directions, and an RFID-enabled payment system makes it easy to drain your wallet, rejuvenate your vehicle and get you back on the open road. There’s even a 42-inch LCD on the top, and while it’s primarily engineered for ads and information, we’re sure a few wire swaps would have your Xbox 360 displayed in no time flat. The DC Fast Charger should be hitting 16 major American cities in the near future, and there’s a video after the break to tide you over.
