Four years ago Sakakibara Kikai brought us a $300,000 real-life BattleMech , and the company hasn’t sat idle since then — last December, it put the final touches on a significantly smaller exoskeleton designed specifically for children. The Kid’s Walker stands just over five feet tall and weighs four hundred pounds, and though the gasoline-powered creature doesn’t exactly walk, its wheeled feet definitely stroll around. The Japanese company told Gizmag the suit isn’t presently for sale — just rentals for now — but would probably cost about 1.8 million yen (around $21,600) should it come to market. If you ask us, that’s a small price to pay; everyone knows it’s always the young mecha pilots that end up saving the world. Video after the break. Now that your AT&T-locked Samsung Galaxy S can occasionally find satellites , you’re probably hoping that the carrier kicks out some creamy Froyo as well, and it looks like that day isn’t far away — an unofficial but seemingly feature-complete Android 2.2 build is available for the Captivate right now . The faithful fiends at xda-developers have got build UCJI6 ready for download, which brings a mobile hotspot, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, the JIT compiler, Media Hub support, and a host of UI tweaks to boot. Instructions are available at the links below to walk you through the process, assuming you’ve already got root , have backed up all your files and are willing to take the risks in case this leaked build isn’t as official as it seems . Here’s a little something to make your weekend fly by — Android Central scored a hands-on look at Verizon’s dual-mode CDMA / GSM worldphone, the HTC Merge (or is that Lexikon ?) and it’s looking like one hell of a handset. Though the prototype’s Android 2.2 build is saddled with HTC Sense and Bing for search, the hardware’s reportedly superb, with a “clicky and responsive and very well spaced” slide-out QWERTY keyboard with no Desire Z hinge nonsense , and a weighty, solid feel. There’s also a 5 megapixel shooter that does 720p video, a likely 2GB of on-board storage and 512MB of RAM, not to mention an 800MHz processor that’ll surely help derail the megahertz myth with superb benchmark scores. See it pull a 1,500 in Quadrant after the break, and start dropping those nickels into your piggy bank. Legendary rockers are releasing officially-licensed LED HDTVs, available in 55-, 46-, 42-, and 32-inch (aka “Mini Kiss,” to no one else but the Engadget staff) variants, priced between $818.88 and $1,988.88 (and unless we’re mistaken by the wording, buying the 55-inch model also nets you a 32-incher) and on sale now online / in-store mid-November. Each set has the Kiss logo emblazoned on each bottom corner, and you’ll be rocked — nay, rawked — by eight seconds of the band’s imagery every time you turn it on. Most of what we’re seeing on the WHDI front has to do with getting basic HD video playback off of the laptop or out of the den and onto the TV, but video games are people too — don’t they deserve the same treatment? Galaxy seems to think so, and it’s building Amimon’s WHDI tech into its upcoming Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 WHDI Edition video card. A receiver adapter for plugging into your TV is of course included, and perhaps the mixed incentive of Blu-ray and DRM’d content streaming (WHDI is HDCP 2.0 compatible) and 1080p 60fps big screen shoot-em-ups will be exactly what PC gaming needs to sneak into the living room. We doubt it, but we appreciate the effort all the same. The card ships in October for an undisclosed, totally radical price. There’s no shortage of fancy ways to geotag with your old beater of a shooter, but Foolography’s new solutions for Nikon DSLRs might be one of the most understated. Two new “Unleashed” modules have just arrived, one for the Dx000 series (D3100, D5000, and D7000), and the other for the ultra-popular D90. The little Bluetooth modules embed GPS data from an external GPS receiver (yeah, it’s BYOEGPSR) directly onto photos as you take them. They’re retailing for €125 outside of the EU (about $170 US) and a bit more to consumers on the continent — nobody ever said classy comes cheap. Magical? Maybe. But there’s no doubt that Apple’s Magic Trackpad was a shot out of left field when it debuted earlier this summer. Offering loads of multitouch gestures to desktop users who are sick and tired of using the same ‘ole mouse for the past score, the pad received little attention from Apple itself. Rather than launching the new hardware at a press event, the company simply slid it into its webstore, just hoping and praying that you’d put your optical bias aside for a moment and try it out.
