Hitachi’s 6.6-inch IPS tablet display with amazing 302 ppi

What you’re looking at is not just another display. This little beauty throws 1600 x 1200 pixels across a 6.6-inch transmissive IPS panel for an amazing 302 pixels per inch density. That’s just shy of the 326 ppi density seen on Apple’s 3.5-inch Retina Display (and now Sharp IS03 ) and blows away the 132 ppi density of the iPad’s 10-inch 1024 x 768 IPS panel or 169 ppi density of the 7-inch 1024 x 600 pixel Galaxy Tab and BlackBerry PlayBook . Even at that size, the panel still manages an 800:1 contrast ratio and 400 nits of brightness. Unfortunately, we don’t have any word on when we can expect these to ship in volume, though we wouldn’t mind seeing it show up in Apple’s rumored 7-inch iPad — anywhere, really. P.S. For what it’s worth, this Hitachi panel shares the same 4:3 aspect ratio as Apple’s iPad. A Valediction: Technologically Assuaging Mourning As virtuous men travel mildly’away, And cling to their Taion Hearts, to goe, Whilst their Heart-equpped friends doe say, The pulse goes now, thanks some say, to NTT DoCoMo: So let us grip, and make no noise, No Skype calls, nor instant messages send, ‘Twere illuminations of our joyes To pulsate the complementary device of our love. Oliver Stone: Sarah Palin is a Moron

Is Palin bashing a pre-requisite for an appearance on the new Parker-Spitzer show?  Aaron Sorkin referred to Palin as an ‘idiot’ and ‘jaw-droppingly incompetent’ on Monday’s show .  And now, Tuesday’s show featured Oliver Stone calling Palin a ‘moron’. Kathleen Parker asks Stone about the prospect of making a movie about Sarah Palin, and he uses this as a launching point for a PDS rant. Parker:  Can you see making a movie about Sarah Palin?  Is she movie fodder?  I would think … Stone:  It’s a bad idea because I think you’re already empowering her.  She’s a moron in my opinion.  She doesn’t say anything. He wasn’t nearly content to rest on those insults however (clip below)… Stone comments on the Palin phenomenon by comparing her supporters to the Know-Nothings: “There’s Know-Nothingism in American histories all over the place.  You find candidates coming, ignorant people run for office, and they win.” Ironic in that he mentions ignorant people running for office and winning to a guy forever known as Client Number 9. Stone also compares Sarah Palin’s followers to the Ku Klux Klan: “The Ku Klux Klan was marching 100,000 Ku Klux Klan marched the streets of Washington, D.C. in 1923 to astounding success with white sheets on their head.” And of course, he puts his America-bashing on full display: “America goes into its virtue, its Know-Nothing kind of like, the foreigners are enemies, we hate the Europeans, we blame them.  We’re an isolationist history and an isolationist country.” Only Oliver Stone could despise Sarah Palin while simultaneously believing Hitler was nothing more than misunderstood . Oh, and speaking of a know nothing moron… At the (0:40) mark, Stone coins a previously undiscovered nickname for FDR – Federal Delano Roosevelt. At the (1:20) mark, he points out that there was another candidate running for election in 2008.  Of Obama’s presidency, Stone says, “I’m still rooting for him.  It’s either him or McCain or Palin or Bush.” He uses the phrase ‘idear’, which the Urban Dictionary defines as, ‘What losers who don’t know proper English say instead of idea.’ Oddly enough, Spitzer doesn’t challenge these ridiculous allegations of Palin being a moron.  Perhaps this is because Client Number 9 fits the bill himself.  During his political tenure in New York, Spitzer attained such intellectually challenged achievements as: Blatantly lied about financing for both of his 1994 and 1998 attorney general campaigns.  He justified skirting campaign finance law by simply saying, ‘the law is porous’.  This is the equivalent of a bank robber justifying his crime by saying ‘the security is porous’. Called a reporter from the New York Daily News, Michael Aronson , at his home, in an attempt to intimidate him into ceasing his critical coverage. Used the New York State Police force to spy on his political opponent (a man he had referred to as a ‘senile piece of s***’), then blocked the release of e-mails regarding the matter. Denied wearing calf-length black socks during sexual encounters with prostitutes , despite it being confirmed by three different and independent sources.  Though I’m not sure which is the more egregious offense – the black socks, or the denial. Kathleen Parker isn’t exactly interested in jumping to Palin’s defense either.  As Matthew Balan points out, Parker has a long history of bashing Palin in her Washington Post columns. Thus far, the Parker-Spitzer show has proven to be nothing more than a forum for unhinged Palin bashers. Parker.  Spitzer.  Stone. Morons.  All of them. HTC grows profits in Q3 to $360 million, revenues rise to $2.45b

It’s good to see that HTC’s omnipresence in the smartphone market is paying off in nicely growing financial figures as well. Having reported $268 million in profit for Q2, the Taiwanese company is today touting a $360 million tally for the period between July and September 2010. Android is again fingered as the chief catalyst for this growth, which is best illustrated by comparing numbers to last year, when HTC managed to pull in $184 million during Q3, or almost exactly half of this year’s haul. Total revenues were also appropriately inflated, up to $2.45 billion, and analysts seem in agreement that HTC’s future is looking rosy. So long as the G2 hiccups remain an isolated incident, that should indeed be the case. NTT DoCoMo’s AR Walker is augmented reality at its finest (video)

Say you’re in New York… or Tokyo. You have absolutely no idea where you are, where you need to go, or where the closest Starbucks is. Sure, you could look at the mapping app on your AGPS-equipped handset, but where’s the sci-fi in that? Leave it to Japan’s NTT DoCoMo (in partnership with Olympus) to whip up a wearable augmented reality solution that’s nearly small enough (and reasonable-looking enough) for individuals with an ounce of self-respect to use, and we’ve had a chance to check it out here at CEATEC this week. Follow the break for impressions and video! T-Mobile’s Passes prepaid data plans leak out

We’ve been saying prepaid data plans are going to be the next big wave in mobile, and it looks like T-Mobile’s getting on board — we were just sent this employee training sheet detailing the upcoming Passes plans. All of T-Mobile’s mobile broadband products are eligible, which is nice, but the plans themselves are a bit lame — $10 gets you 100MB of data or a weeks’ access, whichever comes first, $30 gets you 300MB or a a month’s worth of access, while $50 nets you 1GB or 30 days. That’s an odd blend of tiered data pricing and prepaid limits, and it compares poorly to T-Mobile’s standard $39 / month data plan with a 5GB cap. But hey — flexibility isn’t cheap. Expect to see this one launched at CTIA for October release — the docs say the new plans will arrive with a new Jet USB modem and a prepaid SIM card retail package as well. Acer updates Veriton all-in-ones and nettops for the business execs

Can’t get enough updated products out the door this week, can ya, Acer ? Well, today those spreadsheet-loving executives out there are in luck as Acer’s updating its business-targeted Veriton line up. That attractive 21.5-inch all-in-one up there is the new Veriton Z410G, but it’s more than just silver and black good looks — it’ll be avilable with a Pentium E5700 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive for $719. On the lower end there’s the $599 18.5-inch Z2900G, which differentiates itself with a resistive touchscreen and an dual-core Atom D525 processor. For the smaller form factor inclined, Acer’s also unleashing the $399 Veriton N282G and $449 N281G nettops . The former is powered by a dual-core D525 Atom processor and NVIDIA’s Ion 2 platform, while the latter is stuck with an Atom D425 processor and Intel’s GMA 3150. Both are outfitted with 320GB of storage and 2GB of memory. The prices do seem are slightly higher than Acer’s consumer counterparts, but can you really put a price on Acer’s added Veriton ControlCenter, which includes QuickMigration and PowerSaver software? Until Acer’s next batch of updates, we leave you with the full press releases after the break.
