Photo: shirlaine If there’s anyone on the planet who can relate to the hardships endured by Phila, an endangered black rhino in South Africa, it would be platinum-selling rap star 50 Cent — after all, they’ve both been shot nine times and lived to tell the tale. But unlike the rapper, who was able to break free of the mean streets that nearly claimed his life, Phila and her kind continue to be threat… Read the full story on TreeHugger

COPIAPO, Chile (Reuters) – Chilean rescuers on Sunday reinforced an escape shaft to hoist 33 miners to freedom, bringing their stunning survival story close to its climax two months after they were trapped deep underground. Engineers have drilled a narrow, nearly 2,050 foot-long (625-meter) shaft to evacuate the men, who have been using explosives to make room for a special capsule dubbed “Phoenix” that will lift them one-by-one to the surface. George Will on Sunday once again proved how little Nobel laureate Paul Krugman actually knows about economics. As the Roundtable segment of ABC’s “This Week” approached its conclusion, host Christiane Amanpour referred to French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde’s claim earlier in the program that her country’s economy is already growing and doesn’t need any further stimulus spending. Krugman, who is always interested in government laying out more dollars it doesn’t have, bashed Lagarde’s view saying, “I think she's got a fantasy, which is a popular European fantasy, which bears no relationship to what's actually happening.” With the ball nicely teed up, Will smacked a monster drive down the middle of the fairway that would make Tiger Woods proud (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

If down-to-the-cent leaked prices for Sony’s Google TVs sounded too good to be true, you might have been right — the publication that reported that the sets would range from $1,299 to $1,899 has now backed away from those figures. Sony Insider says that though its original prices seemed legit, the website’s spooks inside Sony now say they’ll actually cost less when they actually hit the market, though the screen sizes and model numbers were apparently right. We don’t really feel inclined to trust the new anonymous sources any more than the original anonymous sources, so we’ll just leave it at that — if they’re cheaper after all, we’ll celebrate, and if not we’ll be forewarned. Sony’s leaked Google TV prices were wrong, says alleged insider originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 10 Oct 2010 21:44:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink

Literally : Not cool, people. Disagree with him all you want, work hard to stop his policies, and do what you can to hurt him politically. But don’t try to hurt him physically. He’s still the president. While the liberals rejoiced with the Iraqi threw his shoes at President Bush, I find this kind of behavior very disturbing. Our politics don’t need to sink to this level. No word yet on what the book was.
