James Carville and his company have done some research into the Dem campaign messaging and found that Bush bashing is actually losing voters : “The weakest messages assert we should ‘go forward, not back.’ Voters are not moved by Democratic messages that say ‘go forward, not back,’ mention President Bush, compare then and now, or even that hint the economy is ’showing signs of progress.’ No matter how dramatically these messages set out the record of Republican obstructionism, their work for the wealthiest and Goldman Sachs, the millions of jobs lost and Democrats’ support for jobs, small business and new industries – these messages falter before the Republican attack. The messages get lower scores and lose voters. After hearing this battle of Republican and Democratic messages, 8 percent shift their vote to support the Republican, while only 5 percent move to the Democrats. We lose ground. These messages are helping the Republicans.” I guess they’ll have to try and win elections the old fashioned way – by coming up with better ideas. Yeah, good luck with that.

Long Before Banksy, Guerilla Artist John Fekner Tagged Environmental Woes (Slideshow)

Image credit: John Fekner /Flickr In the 1970s, single words and short phrases began appearing on dilapidated buildings, highway overpasses, abandoned vehicles, and piles of refuse across New York City. Looking back today, the strong messages and style have a lot in common with street artist Banksy , who appeared on the scene a decade later. The man behind the initially anonymous work was John Fekner , an artist who—for the last s… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Ben Heck makes Xbox 360 ‘Slim’ portable, still won’t make a briefcase feel fat (video)

As always in the world of handmade portable consoles , the word “slim” is a very, very relative term. Appropriately you wouldn’t call Ben Heck ‘s latest creation svelte by any means, but it is considerably smaller than his 2009 version , 1.5-inches skinnier and an inch shorter. Despite that it now has an internal power supply and is even quieter than before. The system’s touch power and eject buttons work as expected here, and up top is a 17-inch Gateway LCD that manages a full 720p’s worth of pixels. Want one? The model pictured above is being given away as part of a contest on The Ben Heck Show , but he’s making two others that are available to, you know, purchase if you have the means. Insignia intros second portable HD Radio: NS-HD02 with ‘live pause’ and bookmarks

Believe it or not, HD Radio ‘s still kickin’. It’ll never be the runaway hit that MP3 was, but considering what satellite radio has been through over the past couple of years… well, maybe things aren’t so gloomy after all. Best Buy’s house label has just introduced a followup to last year’s NS-HD01 portable HD Radio — a unit we were able to toy with for a tick — with the predictably named NS-HD02 boasting a far nicer display and a trio of newfangled features. Best Buy’s trumpeting Artist Experience (on-screen program related images, including targeted ads), Live Pause (enables users to pause playback for up to 15 minutes) and Bookmark (self explanatory), but it ought to be focusing on the 2.5- x 3-inch capacitive touchpanel that looks to be leaps and bounds better than the LCD we kvetched about last year. It’ll also boast a 3.5mm headphone jack and ship with a pair of sure-to-be-lackluster earbuds, and it’ll land in Best Buy stores on October 24th for $69 (a $20 premium over the HD01). Renewable Girls Calendar Aims to Make Solar Sexy. Ugh.

Image credit: Renewable Girls From Oily Cassandra’s sexy dancing peak oil expose to the controversy over podium girls in professional cycling , we are not short of examples of sex being used to sell green living in one way or another.
