Chile celebrates as first miner is rescued

The first of the 33 men who have spent 69 days trapped inside a Chilean mine has succesfully made it to the surface. Florencio Avalos, a 31-year-old truck driver, stepped out of the Phoenix rescue capsule and into a cheering Camp Hope a few minutes after midnight. He hugged his wife, Monica and two children, together with a small reception party who greeted him at the surface, before being taken into a medical facility on a stretcher. Chilcot inquiry makes fact-finding visits to Iraq

The UK’s Iraq inquiry has visited the cities of Baghdad and Basra as part of its fact-finding mission.
