Hamas has been in power in Gaza for four years, and is firmly entrenched in the community. The organisation’s early origins lie in the Muslim Brotherhood, neighbouring Egypt’s banned opposition group. While Egypt’s political turmoil shakes up the Middle East, Hamas could benefit if the Brotherhood becomes a rising political force following the country’s current crisis.
