Egypt Declares Curfew, Corrals ElBaradei
Amid a new wave of protests across Egypt comes news that the country is now under curfew, military vehicles prowl the streets, and opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei has been placed under house arrest. ElBaradei, former head of the U.N.‘s International Atomic Energy Agency, has become a figurehead of the opposition to Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule since his return to the country in early 2010. —JCL Al-Jazeera English: Protests have erupted in cities across Egypt, with demonstrators demanding an end to Hosni Mubarak’s presidency. Tens of thousands took to the streets across the country following Friday midday prayers. State TV said a curfew will be imposed from 6pm to 7am local time. Egyptian military vehicles were sighted on the streets of Cairo on Friday after a day of violent clashes between police and protesters demanding an end to President Hosni Mubarak’s rule.
