New Year’s Day saw one of Europe’s strictest anti-smoking measures take effect in Spain. The new law will create a haven for non-smokers as tobacco use has been prohibited in bars, restaurants and most public spaces. —JCL The BBC: A tough anti-smoking law has taken effect in Spain. The ban—one of the strictest in Europe—outlaws smoking in all bars and restaurants. Smokers will also be prohibited on television broadcasts, near hospitals or in school playgrounds.
