LUMBER CITY, Ga. — A mural on the side of a building. A plaque on the side of a city’s building. The events of Sept. 11, 2001, happened in New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pa., but the day affected Americans nationwide. While there are monuments – or planned monuments – in all three locations, there are also memorials in countless cities nationwide, including in and around Metro Atlanta — in Kennesaw (near The Andrews Raid monuments), Sandy Springs (at the Sandy Springs Historic Site) and Cartersville (in friendship Plaza) in Metro Atlanta.
