Top-ranked Oklahoma began the season on a winning note, beating Tulsa 47-14. No. 2 Alabama routed Kent State, while No. 4 LSU topped third-ranked Oregon 40-27. Three stadiums had to be evacuated because of severe weather. (Sep. 4)
