Everyone knows you can’t fight fire with water, you fight it with more fire. That explains why liberals are losing the war of crazy ideas. The Tea Party is the right’s loud-mouthed, our-way-or-no-way party within a party; what does the left have? A bunch of disorganized fair trade coffee drinkers with Twitter accounts? That’s simply not good enough. But Bill Maher has a solution: “The only way to pull the debate back from the far right is for liberals to elect their own slate of 60 unstable, loony tune, mad-as-a-hatter, crazy motherfuckers.” Of course! Democrats need their own Tea Party movement; that way the crazies on both sides can have their fight and, perhaps reasonable, educated people can once again have a rational conversation in Washington, away from the Hitler-mustache signs and misspelled t-shirts. To that end, Maher’s “Donner Party” sounds like a step in the right direction. WATCH:
