Mika Myllyla Dead: Former Olympic Ski Champion Dies At 41

HELSINKI — Former Olympic cross-country ski champion Mika Myllyla of Finland has died at 41. Police say he was found dead Tuesday. They declined to give details except to say no crime was involved. National broadcaster YLE reports he was found dead in his apartment in the northwest town of Kokkola. Myllyla was one of Finland’s most successful skiers. He won six Olympic medals, including the gold medal in the classical 30-kilometer race at the 1998 Nagano Olympics. He was a four-time world champion. He was banned for two years for a positive doping test in 2001. He then made a comeback but retired in 2005.
