I am not sure if President Barack Obama is aware of this as he visits Brazil, Chile and El Salvador, but on March 24, 1980, Archbishop Oscar Romero was assassinated while worshipping God and celebrating the Eucharist with others. Romero, who was Archbishop of El Salvador, had embraced Liberation Theologies, in which sin is not only found in humanity but also in institutions like militarism, corporatism, imperialism, and various forms of neocolonialism that produced abject poverty and dehumanized others.
