China, Japan begin repairing ties at Asian summit

HANOI (AFP) – China and Japan began repairing their serious rift at an Asian summit, agreeing to improve ties and resume talks on a disputed gas field as the prospects of talks between their leaders brightened. Asia's two big powers have been embroiled in their worst diplomatic row in years, sparked by a territorial dispute that has escalated into protests, scrapped meetings and allegations China is freezing exports of vital minerals.
